It’s been a busy few weeks finalising everything for the wedding. There have been many late nights, lots of shopping trips, and bookings for our honeymoon finalised. But everything is falling into place. In fact I’ve been surprised with just how easily everything has been coming together. Let’s hope it’s a sign of good things to come!
The most exciting purchase for me in the last week has been my wedding dress, which I adore and is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully everyone else loves it as much as I do.
As I have weddings on the mind at the moment, lets kick things off with some beautiful, and different, wedding cakes I’ve come across during the wedding planning process.

La Tartine Gourmand – Recipes for an inspired life
On my reading list this month is the beautiful first book from the award winning blogger Beatrice Peltre of La Tartine Gourmand. One of the things I really love about Beatrice’s book, apart from the stunning photography, is the chapter that she includes explaining the ingredients used in the book, which may not necessarily be common in every kitchen. Ingredients such as quinoa flour, amaranth flour and xanthan gum, are explained in detail, along with why they are used and the various health benefits. If you are looking for a beautiful and inspiring gluten free cookbook this is certainly one to check out.
Vanilla Beans
Vanilla beans are something I always have on hand, they are wonderful in cakes, divine with poached pears and sublime in custards. As beautiful as they are, they are expensive, especially if purchased from the supermarket. Quality can also be lacking too, however I recently came across a wonderful online store, Natural Vanilla, located in Perth, Western Australia, which sells quality vanilla beans in bulk. With 19 small pods for $10 you’d be hard pressed to find better value. Even better, delivery is free within Australia!
Cake Batter Martini
Have your cake and drink it too with this gorgeous and fun Cake Batter Martini I stumbled across on Pinterest. I’ll have two!

Carrot and Sweet Potato Soup with Hazelnut Dukkah

Thats such awesome value for the vanilla beans :D thanks for the tip Jen!
You're welcome Nic :D They really are great value.
I love the ombre cake and those vanilla beans look divine!
The ombre cake is gorgeous isn't it :D
Your posts give me so many ideas! Will definitely check out the vanilla pods - I want to start making my own vanilla extract.
I love that third cake, it is so different to any I have seen before.
Good luck with all the planning!
Thanks :D The planning is going well so far. I hope it continues :)
That martini looks FUN!
My goodness, 6 weeks away! How terribly exciting :) I hope you share images from your big day, I can only imagine how lovely it will be, and I'd love to see the dress you picked. Love the inspiration in today's post :) That his and hers cake is awesome!
Looks like your comment is working now. I couldn't leave any comment last night. Wow...all the wedding cakes are amazing! I tried to choose one, but it's impossible! Glad to hear everything is going well for your wedding! That's definitely a good sign! I hope you will share your wedding pictures in your gown! ;-) Nice soup roundup - I can drink soup all year around!
This is such an exciting time for you, Jen - I wish you every happiness.
I'm dying to see the dress, but am sure you will look absolutely fabulous on the day! xxx
Thanks Amanda :D I'll try to post some photos of the day, assuming I'm happy with how I look in them.
Wedding planning is such an exciting time! All those wedding cakes look gorgeous, my favorite is the first one - the classic wedding cake!
It is a beautiful classic cake isn't it :D It's my favourite too.
ha! the half n half cake is pretty funny, I've not seen one of those before. So many wedding cake styles out there, it's hard to narrow down the kind of one you want. Love the vanilla bean tip (and my home town -woop!) will be grabbing some from them for sure.
So what sort of wedding cake are you getting? Can't wait to see the pics! Love the idea of the cake batter martini... perfect for a celebration!
I'm not sure if your wedding day is ahead of you or behind you, but I wish you a wonderful wedding a lifelong happy marriage. Remember that it's the happiest day of your life, but still there are even more happy days ahead of you! :) thanks for sharing these fabulous cakes!!! liked the one with the surprise gradient of layers and also the first "petal" looking cake.
