Five for Friday: Wedding cakes, La Tartine Gourmand, winter soups & more

It’s been a busy few weeks finalising everything for the wedding. There have been many late nights, lots of shopping trips, and bookings for our honeymoon finalised. But everything is falling into place. In fact I’ve been surprised with just how easily everything has been coming together. Let’s hope it’s a sign of good things to come!

The most exciting purchase for me in the last week has been my wedding dress, which I adore and is exactly what I wanted. Hopefully everyone else loves it as much as I do.

As I have weddings on the mind at the moment, lets kick things off with some beautiful, and different, wedding cakes I’ve come across during the wedding planning process.

How about a beautiful hidden surprise inside your wedding cake

La Tartine Gourmand – Recipes for an inspired life

On my reading list this month is the beautiful first book from the award winning blogger Beatrice Peltre of La Tartine Gourmand. One of the things I really love about Beatrice’s book, apart from the stunning photography, is the chapter that she includes explaining the ingredients used in the book, which may not necessarily be common in every kitchen. Ingredients such as quinoa flour, amaranth flour and xanthan gum, are explained in detail, along with why they are used and the various health benefits. If you are looking for a beautiful and inspiring gluten free cookbook this is certainly one to check out.

Vanilla Beans

Vanilla beans are something I always have on hand, they are wonderful in cakes, divine with poached pears and sublime in custards. As beautiful as they are, they are expensive, especially if purchased from the supermarket. Quality can also be lacking too, however I recently came across a wonderful online store, Natural Vanilla, located in Perth, Western Australia, which sells quality vanilla beans in bulk. With 19 small pods for $10 you’d be hard pressed to find better value. Even better, delivery is free within Australia!

Cake Batter Martini

Have your cake and drink it too with this gorgeous and fun Cake Batter Martini I stumbled across on Pinterest. I’ll have two!

5 winter soups

I’m a little soup mad at the moment. Here are my current  favourites.

Your posts give me so many ideas! Will definitely check out the vanilla pods - I want to start making my own vanilla extract.

ha! the half n half cake is pretty funny, I've not seen one of those before. So many wedding cake styles out there, it's hard to narrow down the kind of one you want. Love the vanilla bean tip (and my home town -woop!) will be grabbing some from them for sure.
