Chocolate Beetroot Cake

I don’t know about you, but a few years ago I would never have thought of combining chocolate and beetroot in a cake. It sounds strange, and the look on my fiances face when I told him I had made a Chocolate Beetroot Cake proved my point. He looked at me dubiously and said “Sounds interesting”, which is his polite way of saying I’m not sure I like the sound of this. So when I handed him a piece to try he looked at me as if I was trying to play a joke on him. But my ever faithful and supportive taste tester plucked up the courage to try this strange sounding cake. To his surprise, and I must admit mine too, he really enjoyed it. The word delicious was even uttered! Score one for the Chocolate Beetroot Cake!

Orange Scented Olive Oil Cake

I came across this recipe in the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living magazine (I subscribe to the iPad version which is fantastic). It was part of a feature called a “Zest for Chocolate”. This cake in particular was one of the first things to grad me as it was made with Blood Oranges (my all time favourite citrus fruit), and drizzled in chocolate ganache!!!

Death By Chocolate Cake

I was excited when my fellow Sweet Adventurers (84th & 3rd, The Capers of the Kitchen Crusader, Dining With a Stud, and this months host, Christina from The Hungry Australian) and I settled on the theme of Death By Chocolate for this months blog hop. Chocolate would easily have to be one of my favourite indulgences, so I couldn’t wait to explore this months theme.

Christmas Spice Cake – Festive Favourites Blog Hop

Christmas Spice Cake

At the risk of sounding like Scrooge, I don’t like your usual Christmas fare. Fruit mince pies, Christmas cake and plum puddings have never been my thing, and being vegetarian, well that means Christmas hams and turkeys are out too. Shortbread is ok, but it’s not something I choose to eat. Never having likea> and plum puddings have neves I like to call them, the thought of Christmas cake is never going to get me excited.

As much as I love Christmas, it’s strange that I don’t actually like traditional Christmas fare. So, I decided, this year I would make a Christmas treat I would actually like. No sultanas, or mixed peel in site….ok, as a compromise, I served them (albiet soaked in alcohol) on the side for the people who like them.
