About

Welcome to Delicieux, my name is Jennifer and I am the author, baker, cook and photographer behind Delicieux!
I was born and raised in Tasmania, also known as the Apple Isle, although it is perhaps better known to my American readers as the land of the Tasmanian Devil. I love going back there, when I get the chance, to visit family and immerse myself in the amazing gourmet food and wine industry that has flourished there over recent years. After a 6 year stint in Melbourne, the foodie capital of Australia, which I sorely miss, I finally migrated towards the sunshine, and now live in sunny Brisbane with my wonderful fiance Troy.
I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 18 years old, but that doesn’t mean I am a tofu loving hippy. Far from it in fact. I don’t even like tofu! I adore great food and I am the type of person who plans their holidays around visiting amazing restaurants and foodie destinations. While I love dining at amazing high end restaurants I also love dining in cosy little cafes, and especially love visiting gourmet food markets and greengrocers. Each time I visit them I tend to get a little carried away coming home with armfuls of ingredients that I’m not quite sure what I’ll do with.
Despite my love of fussy gourmet food produced by talented chefs the food I cook at home is often quite simple. At home food doesn’t need to be complicated or fussy to be delicious. You don’t need to spend 2 hours in the kitchen every night preparing a gourmet delight to enjoy delicious food. All you need are fresh ingredients and a little love.
While I’ve always loved food, Delicieux was born as a hobby to keep myself occupied while my fiance deployed to Afghanistan with the Australian Army. As we had to endure 7 long months apart, food was a way I could show him my love while he was away. So I baked special treats and posted them to him in regular care parcels. Apparently those parcels became somewhat of a highlight, not just for my fiance, but for other people in his unit who would come to visit him and see what new delicious treat he’d received when they got wind that he’d received yet another parcel.
Since humble beginnings Delicieux and my love of food have grown. Despite a long held love of food I’d never really been an adventurous cook, but over recent years Delicieux has caused that to change. While I’m nowhere near as talented as some of my amazing food blogging colleagues, I’m still quite proud of the fact I’ve managed to conquer pastry and custards, which were two of my long held cooking fears. I now look at recipes and try to challenge myself by learning new skills and achieving things I had once thought too difficult.
While Delicieux is something I write for me, to document my food journey, it is now also something I write for you, my readers. It’s still amazes me saying that. My readers. I honestly didn’t think anyone out there would be interested in reading about my cooking adventures, but it seems I was wrong. It’s even more amazing, and extremely exciting, when I receive an email, Tweet or Facebook comment from a reader to say that not only have you tried one of my recipes, but that you enjoyed it. Each and every time I hear that it makes me so happy to know I’ve been able to share my love of food with you.
So where did the name Delicieux come from? Sadly I don’t have a French background, in fact my heritage is Scottish and Irish, however I’ve always dreamed of visiting France and my love of all things French (the food, the culture, the beautiful building, the amazing fashions) was the inspiration for the name. While I’ve not been able visit France yet, I’m hoping that one day soon I will get there.
When I’m not indulging in my passion for food, cooking and taking photos of food I like to indulge in long lazy breakfasts at cosy cafes, browsing through book shops and adding to my overflowing cookbook collection, shopping for shoes (I have quite an addiction to heels), and spending time with my amazing fiance Troy who never ceases in his ability to make me smile and laugh. I’m also busy planning our wedding for later this year.
Apart from my work here on Delicieux you can also find as a contributor for Cravings magazine and Honest Cooking. Hallo, beautiful, just added your blogfeed to my bookmarks bar and also to my journal! *sQuishies*
I stumbled on this site coz I wanted Nigella’s Quadruple Choc cake recipe as I got to see just the first bit and then the last bit.(you know with kids around, things can be tough! he he he)
We do have something in common…I am a vegetarian who loves to bake. More like a Amatuer baker. Being an South Indian Brahmin is both the reason and an excuse for the last mentioned. I am a Vegetarian by birth and Baking is something unheard of in these parts of South India, not to mention that we were not allowed to even consume onions or garlic till 2 generations ago and eggs are a strict no-no even for my mom!!
So you see, I am really a first generation baker!!
I LOVE to bake and am really looking forward to using all the recipes and the links given.
Ciao …. Anu
I have to disagree with you in relation to your kitchen essentials, I am very disappointed with my Scanpan, I now have a complete collection of Circulon. I love them so much better than Scanpan!
Hi Debbie! I haven't actually tried Circulon. I might have to check them out. Thanks for the tip.
Hi Debbie,
looks like you were right. I've now given up on my scanpan. After using them a while it's evident the quality isn't there. I now plan to purchase All-Clad to replace them as I have heard and read they are fantastic……I just need to save up now!
You are so cool, and I love the blog. I found it googling the word "Délicieux", as I am starting a blog with same name. Again love the blog!
I was looking for sausages in brisbane made with only meat and herbs and flavours and this is the only site with some good links. Nice to know that theere are others out there who love food as much.as I do. Orginally from Sydney and really miss the increadable choice particually of ethnic food ( We lived in Marrickville so were able to walk or cycle to several different countries in about 10 min ) Slowly Im finding little gems in Brisbane. Thanks for your blog Ill keep my eyes open
