Some exciting news!!

Hello everyone!  We’re back from our holiday and I’m excited to share some of our wonderful experiences with you.  One of those experiences being a wonderfully special restaurant in New York who were kind enough to provide me access to the kitchen during their dinner session to take photos!  Anyway, I am busy going through the thousand photos I took while we were away, but in the meantime I though I would share some special news with you.

We got engaged!!!

White Gold 0.5 carat brilliant cut engagement ring

Our engagement is a day we will never forget, for a variety of reasons, not least of which because of the lost engagement ring!!

My boyfriend had decided he wanted to propose on the beach in Fiji, so a couple of days after we arrived we had lunch and then strolled along the beach taking photos.  Eventually we reached a little inlet and while I was taking photos of a hermit crab my boyfriend reached into the pouch of his camera strap to take out the engagement ring ready to propose to me.  Unfortunately, the ring was nowhere to be found.

After taking photos of the crab I looked up and noticed my boyfriend had gone as white as a sheet and looked like he was about to be sick.  I asked what was wrong and he didn’t respond.  I asked again and he said “I don’t want to tell you, but we have to go back.”  That only made me worry more as I thought perhaps he had been bitten by something.  Eventually, after lots of worried questions, he admitted he was about to propose and realised the ring he had carefully placed in his camera strap pocket had somehow fallen out! I can’t begin to imagine how he felt at the moment he realised the ring was gone.

I tried to remain calm, because I knew he was feeling bad enough as it was, and we began to retrace our steps along the beach.  As we walked back along the beach, head down scanning the sand in search of the ring, we passed the resort pool, where some of the people swimming there asked if everything was ok.  My boyfriend explained what had happened, so a few people hopped out to help us search for the missing ring.

I then decided to run ahead to the restaurant, where we had had lunch, to make sure it hadn’t fallen onto the floor there.  Sadly the ring wasn’t there either.  My boyfriend eventually met me at the restaurant, not having found the ring, and we informed the restaurant manager what had happened and he said he would inform the resort security team.  He also suggested we retrace our steps again just to make sure we hadn’t missed it.

So, we scoured the beach again, and just as we reached the area where my boyfriend realised he had lost the ring he suddenly said “Here it is!”  I and the people who were helping us look for the ring turned around, in disbelief that we had been lucky enough to find it in all the sand, and there it was, lying in the sand.  He then scooped it up, got down on one knee and said “Before I have the chance to lose this again…will you do me the honour of marrying me?”.  Of course, through a stream of tears, I said yes.

I still can’t believe that we found the ring, but it was obviously meant to be.

Do you have a unique engagement story?  What’s yours?

Congratulations!!!! What a wonderful event :)

My hubby also took me on a holiday to propose, and then realised at the hotel that he had left the ring back at home – he proposed without it and when we got back home he proposed again with it :) How lucky you found it in the sand!

Congratulations! What a story. I can’t believe you actually found the ring! That is one of the best engagement stories I’ve ever heard, although I’m sure you wouldn’t want to go through it all again. I can’t imagine how sick your fiance must have felt when he realized the ring wasn’t there.

Thanks Nicole :D

While my fiance loves telling people the story about how we got engaged and how it all worked out in the end he hates thinking about how he felt then and gets a slightly ill look when people ask how he felt when he realised he lost the ring. The poor thing, I can't imagine how bad he felt at that moment. I know I felt sick when I heard, but I knew I had to remain strong for him because he was already feeling bad enough.

Hi Ange!! Thanks so much for the kind words! I was half expecting you to email Troy today but I wasn't sure if you still read the blog.

It definitely is an amazing story and one we won't forget in a hurry. As for the ring, we actually picked it out together while we were in New York. We happened to pass a jeweller on the way back to our hotel from lunch and popped in for a look not expecting we'd find anything, but we did. Even though I knew Troy had the ring he told me to take a good look at it as it would be a while before I'd see it again, so I did. I didn't expect him to propose so soon, but he admitted he couldn't wait and he also thought that every time we went out for dinner back in Australia I would be half expecting a proposal.

Thanks again :D Hope you are well.

This is such a dramatic story, but it certainly makes for a really unique and memorable one. I am really happy for you and your bf. I'm so glad you guys decided to go on this trip even after the little mishap (for your bf) in May. I can really sense your joy in this post!!

Congratulations! Amazing news! :) ))

Now you have to plan the perfect white wedding with lots of delicious food ;)

Buying of the engagement ring was the funny thing with us, because I sell engagement rings, but my husband couldn’t just buy one from me for me :) )) So he contacted my partner in Antwerp and they made it all together without me knowing :) According to him the expression on my face seeing the ring was priceless :)
